Masks

Genre: Poetry

They both were the same kind of person, but hid the truth and put on a lie and masked their true selves, passing by each other during their lives and never knew they could have been perfect together if they showed their true selves.

Discussion questions:

  •  Why would someone want to lie about themselves?
  • Have you ever lied to anyone to fit in the group?
  • Why should people be their true selves?
Activities:

  • Create a face mask, have the students tell 2 lies and a truth with classmates
    • By using this activity, see how many people would rather hear something that is not true about you versus the real you. However, having students see other students having something in common would see how cool it is to see what common interests they share
The legendary Shel Silverstein wrote this amazing poem, the books that include these great poems are:

  • Where the Sidewalk Ends
  • A Light in the Attic
  • Falling Up
